These are a great side dish for a braai and take almost no time at all to prepare. Cut the mielies into smaller pieces to make them more manageable for children.

(serves 8)

You’ll need:

4 large mielies

2T flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped

1/2 Tbsp chives, finely chopped

1 Tbsp basil pesto

1 Tbsp water

½ tsp pepper

Cut the mielies in half and either boil until tender or cook on the braai.

In the meantime, mix the herbs, pepper, water and pesto in a bowl. Once the mielies are ready, place on a clean working surface. With a basting brush, brush the herb mixture over the mielies. Place in a serving dish and serve hot.
