Pharmacy Q&A

Pharmacy Q&A

A day in the life of Pharmacist: Nikita Singh

Get to know your friendly MediRite pharmacist!

Q: Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a pharmacist?

A: My journey began by obtaining my B.Pharm degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I went on to gain practical experience, working alongside experienced pharmacists during my internship and community service.

Thereafter, I transitioned into a retail pharmacist within the Medirite group working between different branches. After years of commitment and growth, I am now the pharmacy manager at Medirite Plus Oceans Mall.

Q: What makes your job worthwhile?

A: It’s building lasting relationships with patients, founded on trust and care that further adds to the meaningful nature of my work.

Q: What's your favourite Medirite product for staying healthy?

A: Incorporating Medirite Mutivitamin A-Z caplets into my daily routine has been a key element in maintaining my health and well-being. It ensures that I receive a broad spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals, which help bridge potential nutrient gaps in my diet.

Q: What's the most common query from patients at the pharmacy?

A: During this flu season, a lot of customers have asked for remedies to alleviate a persistent dry cough after recovery. This is often referred to as a ‘post-viral cough’ and we advise staying hydrated, humidifying the air, avoiding irritants, and using throat-soothing medicines.

Q: What allergy tips can you give us for the season?

A: I recommend a comprehensive approach such as identifying and minimising specific triggers, using hypoallergenic products and considering over-the-counter medicines like Medirite Fexogen 120mg and Medirite Saline nasal spray to help prevent and alleviate symptoms.

Q: Are there any experiences that have left a lasting impact on you as a pharmacist?

A: One particularly impactful experience was during an awareness campaign where we conducted blood pressure screenings. A young woman who seemed perfectly healthy and active had alarmingly high readings. I calmly explained the risks and urged her to see her doctor promptly. A few weeks later, she returned to the pharmacy, thanking us profusely for saving her from a potentially life-threatening situation.

This reaffirmed my commitment to community outreach and proactive healthcare initiatives.

Q: What I most enjoy about my profession/being a pharmacist.

A: My love for the profession extends far beyond the job itself. I get to embrace the art of Pharmacy, a harmonious blend of science, compassion and human connection. Each day, I am humbled and inspired by the privilege to heal, to empower and to make a meaningful difference.

I cherish the trust that patients place in me, and I embrace this responsibility with humility and dedication. Being a pharmacist is not just a profession; it is a lifelong fulfilling journey contributing to a healthier, happier society for generations to come.
